Red Ant Highway
I have not seen the good old
garden variety red ant in years.
The ant we grew up watching...
Following their super highway
back to the nest.
Their nest isn't a mound
like the Devil Spawned Fire Ant
but...
a huge circle in the dirt
with a large central opening for
their coming and going
They were nearly made extinct
by drought...
and
Fire Ants...
It does my heart good to see them again.
I have a highway on my sidewalk
that is busy as any interstate as they
travel daily to their journey and back
to the nest I found in my neighbor's yard
Hopefully, with their return we will also
see the great Horned Toad...
another nearly extinct creature in my
area...their food supply
...Red Ants!
