Sitting here on the eve of the last night of 2013, I have so much to be thankful for and so many things I am happy will never be in my life again.
I am the last of my family line, so it is a bit sad remembering those who have departed. However, I am able to create a family of my choosing from dear friends…friends who are precious to me and I am thankful daily they are a part of my life and allow me to be a part of theirs.
I entered a new phase of my life in June by retiring after 37 years of the business of education. Those years were good ones for the most part. I spent 13 years teaching Home Economics to West Texas kids from grades 6 through their Senior year. Had the experience of sponsoring many different classes, cheerleaders (oh my!) and the yearbook. Each experience brought their own series of adventures, joys and tears. From having to drive a bus to learning to run a darkroom, those years were never boring. After that, I was an Elementary Principal in to very rural very small West Texas districts…and that's all I'm going to say about that! They were good years, but what a whirl wind…my father died and my mother was seriously ill during that time and I was very far away from them. The last 20 years were spent in the Curriculum realm in a large Central Texas district. There is not enough time to begin those stories for this post. Who knows? There may be a book there sometime.
Retirement has given me the time and the opportunity to focus on my writing…two different blogs (sometimes three) as well as working on a serial novella. In the past month, I have ideas for two more, but need to focus on one at a time and get things completed and published on Amazon for kindle.
Writing has brought me a new and wonderful circle of friends who are novices like me, published authors and poets. They have mentored me, edited for me, encouraged me and just been there as a whole new part of my life. I am blessed beyond measure and appreciate these people more than they know or I could ever tell them.
Enough rambling…but this is Texas Musings…so, Happy New Year's Eve from rural Central Texas and hope the new year brings you everything you hope it to be for you and your family.
