I wanted to wait until I got home from picking up my first food coop basket to decide about my post today. My writing practice from yesterday as well as today did not really inspire anything blog worthy.
So here I sit, with my haul at the end of my temporary computer table smelling the wonderful fruit and mint while I totally GEEK out about this purchase. I found out about Bountiful Baskets from a flyer at my Physical Therapist's office. I checked out the website and then emailed the local contact to see if she was still providing this service every two weeks in Lampasas, TX.
I live very rural and the offerings of organic anything only happens if you grow your own. Not gardening at all this year due to the broken arm, I was delighted to find out about Bountiful Baskets.
What you see here minus two loaves of bread, several limes, mangos and two more bags of mint was my first purchase. I took the additional bread, granola, and tropical options to add to my basic basket for a first time purchase. Now I need to rearrange my freezer for the extra bread. In two weeks, I am sure I will go with the basic basket because even I cannot eat 5 loaves of bread in two weeks...but I know it will freeze well.
Have plans to grill that fresh corn and will need to dry most of the mint. I have not had a fresh coconut since I was a child. This was always a special treat and a definite guilty pleasure of my mother. The lettuce, spinach and celery are so freshly picked they are covered in sand. The salad spinner will definitely get a work out when I finish this post! Only one Plantain, but I will enjoy every bite of it as well. I think all of this for $60 was a heck of a deal.
If anyone is interested in checking out the availability of Bountiful Baskets in your area you may go to their website: www.bountifulbaskets.org or look for them on FaceBook: www.facebook.com/BountifulBasketsTexas or www.facebook.com/BountifulBasktes for the rest of the US. FaceBook also has recipes and ideas that are helpful for your diet.
In two weeks I will go with the basic organic basket and will be paying $26.50 for those offerings, with $1.50 of that total as a handling fee.
So if you love great produce and cannot grow your own, or have a grocery near that provides this type of wonderful food, you may want to give this group a look see for really fresh produce and other special offerings every two weeks.
Ok...I am over my GEEK fit!
Always...I wish you peace, joy and happiness, but most of all I wish you Love. Love yourself and start eating really good fresh produce...doesn't matter where you buy it...just eat healthier.
As Ever, Annie
