I have always been fascinated by the artists who work with hot molten glass -- thousands of degrees hot! When I had the opportunity to go to Salado Glassworks in October and participate in their blow your own Pumpkin event…I was hooked. Granted Gail did all the heavy lifting…all I supplied was the hot air which I have in abundance! That trip, I made two pumpkins … one for me and one for my friend in Seattle (and yes, it did survive the USPS shipping and arrived in one piece)!
My obsession continued in November when Gail and his elves began the "Blow Your Own Ornament even". I told you I was hooked…so given the change to make my own Christmas Ornaments was my next adventure. This time I made three Christmas Ornaments … and I still cannot decide which is my favorite. Below is a progression of pictures to show how this "do it yourself" glass blowing actually takes place! (There is a video later in this post.)
Below is a YouTube video that was on a local TV news report. I was actually in the shop just before this was filmed to pick up my pumpkins!

There were more steps between 4 & 5, but the YouTube video below of a boy making his own ornament will give you a much better idea. This was posted a couple of years ago. Enjoy!
The next video is so amazing I just had to include it with this post…Gail working on a multiple piece project.
Cannot wait until the spring for my next adventures in glass blowing!

This is only the beginning of my adventure. If you live in the Central Texas area, treat yourself to Salado and visit Salado Glassworks and check out this amazing artist.
